About Us: H&L Contracting is a Suffolk County based General Contractor specializing in Heavy Civil, Highway & Marine Construction.
Our office is located in Hauppauge, NY and we have various projects throughout the Tri-State area and New England.
H&L marine work includes hydraulic and mechanical dredging, pile driving, stone jetties, bulk heading, stone revetment, and marsh rehabilitation.
Road construction jobs include bridge rehabilitation, bridge rail, concrete work, asphalt paving, structural steel, overhead sign structures, guide rail, earth moving, and ornamental fence.
*The Role: *We are seeking our first Human Resources hire.
Reporting to the Managing Partner of H&L, you’ll be tasked with formalizing our HR function.
*Qualifications:*
* 7+ years of experience, with growing levels of responsibility, in Human Resources.
* 2+ years of people management experience is preferred
* A self-starter who thrives on creating, implementing and executing HR strategies and procedures
* You like to foster strong business relationships in order to coach and provide advice and counsel to managers
* Strong Employee Relations experience
* Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
* You enjoy working with others to find common ground and also to identify areas for improvement
* Strong experience in labor laws and workplace safety regulations
* Experience in construction, warehouse, manufacturing and environmental industries is strongly preferred
* Experience with union environments is a plus
* Bilingual ability (or more!) is a plus
* Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (or a related field) is preferred
*Responsibilities: *
* Work with the H&L Leadership Team to prioritize HR goals
* Revise employee handbook
* Work effectively with key leaders in order to direct, and ensure HR controls are in place for employment, compensation, benefits, healthcare, etc.
* Manage company benefits including 401K administration, health insurance, PTO, etc.
* Be the point of contact for employee relations issues.
Conduct follow up to complaints and ensure workplace issues are resolved; conduct employee relations investigations as applicable; prepare written materials for documentation and conveying information
* Consult with and advise management regarding the interpretation of policies/practices to ensure compliance with legal and administrative requirements; facilitate resolution of issues
* Minor office management tasks, such as ordering supplies and ensuring a clean work environment
