The respiratory therapist evaluates and treats cardiopulmonary conditions.
This includes teaching patients and their families about treatment and maintenance of pulmonary health problems, including the use of respiratory therapy equipment and medications.
Responsibilities:
Ability to determine appropriateness of therapy and contacts physician to clarify or modify order when necessary
Able to provide verbal and written educational materials to patients when appropriate
Follows policy for documentation of critical values in the patient's medical record
Assists with patient care decision making by communicating with physicians, nurses and other health care team members and by making appropriate decisions as needed in emergency situations.
Provides airway care including the maintenance of a patent airway through intubation, tracheostomy care, clearance of airway obstructions and reversal of bronchial narrowing due to bronchospasms and inflammation of the airways.
Extubates patients when appropriate and provides appropriate airway care following extubation
Provides care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations in the hospital intensive care, non-critical care areas and the emergency room.
Applies and maintains invasive and non-invasive ventilation systems to critically ill patients of all age groups
Draws blood samples and analyzes and interprets the results of blood tests.
Has ability to assemble and troubleshoot Respiratory Therapy equipment
Requirements:
Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy from a Respiratory Therapy education program accredited by CoARC
Basic Life Support Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification, New York State Respiratory Therapy Technician or Respiratory Therapist License
Basic computer skills
The pay for this position ranges from $55.
00 – $60.
00 per hour.
